Keeping our employees and community safe during COVID-19
While the world has rung in the new year, the global pandemic continues to take a toll on all of us. At Hydra Dyne Technology, we do everything in our power to keep our facility, employees and local community safe.
As a full-service machining facility that has been deemed essential, risk mitigation is on our everyday agenda! Even during these scary and challenging times, business must go on, but never in a way that puts our workers and community at risk.
COVID-19 Safety Plan Implementation
To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our workplace, we have introduced a detailed COVID Safety Plan, outlining specific precautionary measures based on information and advice obtained from the World Health Organization and Government of Canada.
This plan includes but is not limited to hand hygiene, workspace cleaning, physical distancing, wearing face masks, performing self-assessments, developing symptoms at work, the process of handling a confirmed diagnosis, return to work requirements and more. The plan is easily accessible online to all staff, and partial printouts are placed throughout the facility.
Our COVID-19 Policy in Practice
To help digest our thorough list of measures, below is a short overview of the most evident preventive measures in place at Hydra Dyne Technology (in addition to regular hand-washing, wearing face masks and physical distancing):
- Reduced In-Person Interactions
Given the nature of our business, staying (or working from) home is not an option for most staff. However, to reduce exposure and risk, we are actively regulating and limiting unnecessary visitors and personnel to our facility. On top of that, to maintain social distancing, virtual meetings are now the norm for both internal and external. - Daily Digital Screening
All persons required to be onsite must fill out our COVID self-assessment questionnaire prior to entering the facility. By tracking employees’ well-being on a daily basis, early identification of COVID symptoms becomes possible and self-isolation, if required, can be started as soon as possible in an effort to limit potential exposure to co-workers.
Additionally, given that the incubation period for COVID-19 is (on average) 5 to 6 days, it’s important to keep track of who entered the building and when. Knowing where infected workers or visitors) have been is important for tracing other who may have been exposed.[1]
- Limiting Mutual-Touch Surfaces and Equipment Sharing
Apart from thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting high traffic areas and surfaces (before, during and after shifts), we try to diminish the need to share “things”. Rather than having to share papers and binders, we focus on electronic documentation. Work instructions and critical information is all stored and shared online using Narrative. Our employees are allowed to access this information on a smartphone or tablet, which diminishes the number of shared surfaces staff have to touch.
As you can imagine, our list of preventive measures is extensive and remains in flux to stay up-to-date and in line with government and health organization recommendations – the above was just a sample of all we are doing. We’re committed to serving our customers while keeping our employees, facility, and community safe.
